As a custom scribe, your pay will be determined by a few factors, including your overall speed, quality and other bonuses. When first starting out, you will have a base rate assigned to all new scribes. Your goal is to maintain a certain speed and quality in order to qualify for Enhanced Pay, and going above and beyond these standards will qualify you for bonuses.
Note: Overall stats will be used to determine your "priority status." Employees set to a higher priority will have the most consistent custom workflow, despite low incoming volume. Employeess who are not at a high priority status will be prevented from docking jobs when the volume is low. New employeess are set to a high priority status for the first two weeks for training purposes. After that time, priority status is given to employees with the best overall statistics (including overall corrections per hour). Poor overall stats may disqualify you from a high priority status.
X Factor is the ratio of the amount of time spent by the Employee transcribing dictations divided by the amount of dictation time processed by the Employee.
QA X Factor is the ratio of the amount of time spent by the Employee performing quality assurance on dictations divided by the amount of dictation time that the quality assurance is performed on by the Employee.
SPR (Shift Premium Rate) is the additional hourly rate the Employee can qualify for if they work above a threshold number of hours in a pay period.
Corrections Per Hour (CPH): This is the average number of corrections made to your work by a QA per hour of submitted transcription. For example, if you submitted four total hours' worth of programming and received a total of 64 errors, you would have a CPH score of 16.
Accuracy Corrections Per Hour (ACPH): This is the average number of corrections per hour of transcription that fall under the categories of Special Content, Accuracy, Omission. This is determined similarly to your CPH.
Forfeitures: This is the ratio of jobs you were unable to complete on or before their deadline against the total number of jobs you processed. Jobs forfeited from you do not pay out a processing bonus. This does not apply to Forced Completed jobs.
Marked CPH (QA Only): This is the ratio of corrections marked per QA dictation hour. If you reviewed a total of 4 hours of programming and marked 64 corrections of any type, you would have a marked CPH of 16.

To estimate your pay in this system, you can use the formula below.
(Logged Hours * (Base Rate + (Seniority Steps + Efficiency + Quality Assurance + SPR))) + ((Formalizer Scribe Processed Hours * $2.00) + (Formalizer QA Processed Hours * $1.50) + (Custom Scribe Processed Hours * $3.00) + (Custom QA Processed Hours * $1.25))
So before you begin, you'll need to know what your base rate is and how many cumulative hours you have with the company, as well as an estimate of the other variables. Please speak with an Operations Supervisor if you need help locating this information.
Remember: You must meet ALL of the Eligibility Requirements in order to qualify for any of the rate increases and Processing Bonuses below.
Once you have those variables, you can begin to calculate your rate increases and hourly pay.
(Logged Hours * (Base Rate + (Seniority Steps + Efficiency + Quality Assurance + SPR))) = Total Hourly Pay
- Start by adding your Seniority Steps (you have $0.00 if you're below 200 hours, $0.25 between 200-499, $0.50 between 500-999, $0.75 between 1000-2999, or $1.00 at 3000 or greater).
- Next plug in your Efficiency Bonus: $0.00 if your XF is above 2.8, $0.50 if your XF is between 2.8 and 2.41, or $1.00 for XFs at or below 2.4.
- If you're a QA, add $0.25.
- Finally, if you log more than 48 hours in a pay period, add $0.25.
- Now that you've added all your potential Rate Increases together, add that number to your base rate, and then multiply the sum by your total Logged Hours for the pay period.
To calculate your Processing Bonuses:
(Formalizer Scribe Processed Hours * $2.00) + (Formalizer QA Processed Hours * $1.50) + (Custom Scribe Processed Hours * $3.00) + (Custom QA Processed Hours * $1.25) = Processing Bonuses
- Multiply your total number of Formalizer Scribe Processed Hours by $2.00.
- If you're a QA, multiply your total number of Formalizer QA Processed Hours by $1.50.
- For your custom Processing Bonus, multiply your completed Custom Scribe Processed Hours by $3.00.
- If you're a custom QA, multiply your completed Custom QA Processed Hours by $1.25.
- Now add all four numbers together to calculate your Processing Bonuses.
Now simply add your Processing Bonuses to your Total Hourly Pay to calculate your total compensation.
Total Hourly Pay + Processing Bonuses = Total Compensation
